Sensei David Wynes, MT.
Born 1947

Sensei David Wynes is the chief instructor and owner Japan Karate Institute Bakersfield.
Born in 1947 he began his studies in Tang Soo Do at the age of 17, and earned his black belt in Goju-Ryu in 1992.
Sensei Wynes is a personal student of Master Masayuki Shimabukuro Hanshi in all his martial arts. While serving in Vietnam in 1968-69, Sensei Wynes distinguished himself and his unit, the 101st Assault Helicopter Battalion, 101st Airborne Division as a helicopter door gunner. In that capacity, Sensei was honored with many personal, unit citations and decorations including 19 Air Medals, one with the "V" device for heroism. Sensei Wynes has taught students in Kern County for over 20 years. Speaking of teaching pupils successfully, Sensei says, "If you really love them, they know it!" In addition to the years of marital arts training, Sensei Wynes found a desire to learn sports-injury therapy. He has earned several credentials studying traditional Shiatsu Anma Therapy, current sports injury and Eastern healing modalities under the guidance of Dr. DoAnn Kaneko Sensei as Uchi Deshi at The Shiatsu Massage School of California. Sensei is a fourth degree black belt in Shito-Ryu Karate-Do, which is taught at JKIB.
